Particles that float on the screen come into contact with each other and combine according to predetermined rules. Through repeated combination, the particles gradually grow into characters. These characters are then transformed into words, and the words into sentences, with the structure built up hierarchically. Programming the characters’ shapes and typographic rules as the rules for combining particles causes the scattered state to gradually give way to text-like order. The work was given the title “cosmo-typesetting automaton” because the process of its visual behavior evokes the universe.

I believe that the fundamental principle of typography, as a technique for arranging types, is to control numbers and rules. Can we use programming to extend this control system and approach a state of characters, one that is not based on efficiency and rationality, which have hereto been the main principles of typography? Furthermore, can we not find beauty in the process of forming text itself?
