Underware is deeply honored to receive the Tokyo TDC Prize for Flux. This project reimagines the boundaries of typography by combining cutting-edge OpenType technologies, such as Variable Fonts and Color Fonts, to create a type family that exists across multiple dimensions. Rooted in the concept of a paradimensional low-poly typeface, Flux challenges the traditional perception of type as flat and fixed, offering a dynamic grammatographical interplay of form, space, and color.
Flux was conceived to explore the evolving relationship between technology and design. By harnessing advanced typographic tools, it unites dimensionality, adaptability, and interactivity, providing users with a flexible system that is both functional and expressive. This work invites audiences to see type not merely as a vehicle for language, but as an immersive experience that adapts and evolves across formats.
Receiving this recognition from Tokyo TDC is a humbling affirmation of the potential of experimental typography. It highlights the importance of innovation and curiosity in expanding design possibilities. We are immensely grateful to the jury and the broader design community for celebrating this exploration.
Underware hopes Flux inspires others to push the boundaries of typography, embrace emerging technologies, and create grammatographic designs that challenge conventions while opening up new creative dimensions. Thank you for this incredible honor and for championing a vision of typography as multifaceted and transformative as the world we live in.
