This work is the graphic design for EASTEAST_ TOKYO 2023, a new art event held in February 2023 at the Science Museum. I aimed to create a VI that embodied EASTEAST_’s philosophy of “creating a space where diverse individuals, brimming with potential, form a community that transcends boundaries, seamlessly connecting art and culture without boundaries.” The visual translation of these elements is reflected in an original typeface with overlapping balloon-like parts, a flexible and dynamic underline that moves freely, and a mood that strikes a balance between rigidity and roughness. Artists, galleries and the audience are the main actors of the platform, so a lot of effort was directed to striking the right balance and creating a design that was distinctive yet not overly assertive. I would like to express my gratitude to the EASTEAST_ team for the opportunity to work together on such a fun project and to realize the design through various forms of collaboration. Finally, I would like to thank you for selecting me for this prize. I will continue to do my best going forward!
