We take a dual status as an observer and a designer to do systematic research of Cantonese. And we visualize the research into the <góng mē-Cantonese Observation Exhibition>. This language observation focuses on Cantonese daily conversations. Different from textbook-style language studies, we show the vulgarity of worldly life and catch a glimpse of social reality. We hope audiences can feel the vigor and vitality of the language.
This exhibition includes: 1. Homophonic mandarin, English and numbers in Cantonese (sap6 man6 gau2 m4 ying3); 2. Cantonese tongue twisters (gai1 gwai1 gwat1 gwan2 gang1); 3. Cantonese final particles (cheui4 hau2 ap1)；4. Cantonese about chicken (mou4 gai1 bat1 sing4 jin3); 5. Food-related slangs (cou1 caa4 daam6 faan6); 6. Cantonese nursery thymes (tung4 yiu4 seun3 bou3 seung1); 7. Cantonese reduplicated words (Hau2 fa1 fa1); 8. Shirts (gong2 me1).
Cantonese has been activated from various dimensions, from words to sentences, from types to pronunciations, from wording to homophonic translation. The diversity of Cantonese is demonstrated in daily use. Its feature has been illustrated by this work. We want to arouse an echo with audiences through the exhibition, as an effort to preserve the rich culture of Cantonese.
