These images are my attempt to mix “reading” and “listening” as much as possible.

When one person listens to another, he or she unconsciously and frequently looks at the movements of the other’s mouth. Considering the abilities of lip readers, perhaps looking at the movements of the mouth generally helps people to listen. So, I thought that if I pasted letters (phonograms) on the mouth in real time, I would be able to create an interesting state in which viewers may feel like they are reading, listening or reading, or in which someone can smoothly and quickly read and listen to letters pronounced at high speed. I also thought that I might be able to create more unexpected effects. So, I made many trials.

I am proud that my trial work won the award, which is really interesting to me as well. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to people who appeared in the work – Mr. Yasuaki Matsui, Ms. Natsuko Morita and Adrian! I also appreciate Mr. Hiroshi Ouchi’s contributions in filming and editing the work, and Mr. Masaya Ishikawa and Mr. Koichi Suzuno for giving technical advice and instructions. Thank you very much.
