here and there 1-10(Book Design)
In spring 2002, Nakako Hayashi, an editor, told me that she would start something akin to a personal magazine, and she requested that I join her as art director. I was not quite sure about the project, but I accepted the offer because I felt that I understood her intention well enough. The magazine was published approximately once a year. Only a small number of copies were published, but the magazine received acclaim both from within Japan and abroad. NIEVES, an independent publisher in Switzerland, began to publish us in the middle of the project. When the magazine reached its 10th issue, Benjamin Sommerhalder, the president of NIEVES, proposed that we bind and publish the copies in one volume as a monochrome book, in commemoration. Sommerhalder decided on the book specifications, selected the paper type, and scanned all pages of all 10 issues, while I went back and forth. I sent him design data for the cover via e-mail, and finally a thick book, much like a telephone book, was completed.
