Südpol Poster Series(Poster)
The Suedpol is a multi purpose cultural center in Kriens, Switzerland, close to Lucerne, that houses a theater, a sinfony orchestra, a brass band, a music school, a restaurant, a flea market, and rents its rooms for performances of music, dance, theater, literature, digital arts and so on.
Since 2010 Felix Pfäffli designs all posters for that house. From the beginning, it was the idea that the poster series of the Südpol reflects its versatility. The corporate design is set very reluctant so that the design can be as free as possible. The three posters are three of total 50 posters which are produced since 2010. Most of the posters of the Südpol are unlike those posters printed using a Risograph to the relatively small size A3. They are characterized by their simple language, the versatility and of course the vivid colors of the risograph. The Südpol poster series is always in flux. Everything is questioned again and again, reinvented and restructured.
The three selected posters are created in 2012 in the period between January and June. These are two music posters and a theater poster. The “There Must Be Some Kind Of Way Out Of Here” poster is a poster for a stage play that deals with the impossibility to escape from himself, his identity and his thoughts. Just as the actors in the play, the design tries to escape the poster format while the title of the play repeats itself, as in thought, in an endless flight of stairs over and over again. It’s obvious: There is no escape.
