Acon, a typeface for booktypography (Type Design)

I started Acon during my studies in the Type and Media Master programme at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague. While developing the proposal for my final project, I noticed that the majority of text typefaces used for contemporary book design are based on the translation contrast (broad nib). With Acon I wanted to create a typeface based on the vertical orientation of the expansion contrast (pointed pen) and optimised especially for book typography.

This vertical orientation of the contrast gives Acon an elegant tone while its sharp features lend the texture a crispness that complements the openness of the proportions. The Italic with its strong angle reflects this crispness and provides a lively, appropriate companion to the Regular style. Acon is still a work in progress but at the moment it consists of four weights: Regular, Book, Bold and Black in Roman and Italic all styles include Small Caps.
