“Nihongo De Asobo”- Let’s Play with Japanese(The NHK Children’s Program)
This was the first time I had worked on a TV program. I was given the opportunity to participate in the very early stages of the project when pretty much nothing had been decided. After many extensive brainstorming sessions a pilot program was aired in January 2003. Airing of the regular program started in April.
The project members began by groping in the dark, without any idea what the final outcome would be. However, we discussed a wide range of ideas. At one point during the discussions, I remember saying something like “I would like it to be a program in which the text makes an impression.” I wanted to explore ways to convey the interesting aspects of the printed word and the Japanese language for children who have not become fixed in their values. After realizing that there are unlimited possibilities for this program, ideas began to pour out in profusion. Many people are involved in creating a TV program. So naturally, I would like to accept this award as a member of the team. Thank you very much.
